Event will Benefit Seafarers' House at Port Everglades

Seafarers' House is pleased to announce that the Seafarers' House Port Everglades 5K Run/Walk will take place at 5:30 pm April 2, 2011 at Port Everglades.

This will be the first time such an event has taken place inside of the Port. Port Everglades will be sponsoring this event with in-kind support and all proceeds will go to Seafarers' House, a charitable organization with a mission to offer 'refuge, resources, renewal and respect to the maritime community through multi-faith service.'

Seafarers' House Board Member and 5K Committee Co-Chair, Mr. Mike Lee of McRoberts Maritime Security said: "As Committee Chair and an avid runner, I am committed to putting on a first class event. To ensure success, we have secured the services of Split Second Timing, Inc, led by its owner, Rick Stern. With Rick's expert guidance and the hard work of our committee, there is no doubt this will be an outstanding event."

The USATF Certified course, measured by Gene Witkowski, is flat and fast with two loops on the paved roads of Port Everglades. There is a short bridge at the start and finish of the race. The course will take runners and walkers through the Port, past the world famous Terminal 18 cruise terminal and Seafarers' House. The twilight run is set for 5:30pm against a scenic backdrop of departing ships and the waters of the Port. Following the race, there will be an awards presentation and a picnic barbeque..

5K Committee Co-Chair and Vice President of Seafarers' House Board, Jim Hampel of For Life Products, said, "We have been pleased with the great response from the community. We have more runners signing up daily and we are especially grateful for the support and involvement of Captain Level Sponsors Port Everglades of Broward County, Royal Caribbean Inc. and Seacor Holdings, Inc. as well as our Commander Level Sponsors: FastStream Recruitment Group; For Life Products, and McRoberts Maritime Security. Red Bull and Outback Steakhouse have stepped up to underwrite the barbecue and beverages at the end of the race so we have a great event planned."
