Norwegian Cruise Line christened its newest and largest ship to date, Norwegian Escape, in Miami on Monday.

Miami native and musical superstar Pitbull (Armando Perez) was selected as Godfather for the vessel and performed at the ceremony.

The 4,200-passenger cruise ship arrived in PortMiami on Sunday. The vessel was built in 17 months by Meyer Werft in Germany.

At 1,065 feet long and 172 feet high, it’s currently the world’s fifth largest cruise ship. It will carry 4,200 guests each week from Miami to Caribbean destinations.

Bookings have surpassed the levels of Norwegian's three most recent ships: Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway, Frank Del Rio, CEO of Norwegian Cruise Lines Holdings, told analysts last week.

Norwegian Escape features new guest amenities and entertainment including quality finishes, curated artwork, “The Haven”, a ship-within-a-ship suite complex, and upgraded menus across all restaurants.
