Pirouetting Tug Escorts Viking Star

Published May 12, 2015 8:46 PM by The Maritime Executive

The KOTUG Rotortugs RT Ambition and RT Evolution towed the cruise ship Viking Star through the Thames Tidal Barrier on the Upper River Thames and assisted her to swing and berth at Greenwich, home of some of Britain’s richest maritime history.

The towage operation on this cruise ship was a very special job, as the vessel’s arrival was the first call of the biggest cruise ship in the Port of London. The Viking Star is a new cruise ship, weighing in at 47,800 tons and arrived in Greenwich as part of her maiden voyage.

The Kotug crews and tugs performed the job very well, and enjoyed the multitude of camera lenses pointing in their direction. Kotug’s newest Hybrid Rotortug RT Evolution welcomed the cruise ship by performing a pirouette, it was called a “spinning tug.”
