Within the international cooperation program with the United Arab Emirates, in the last weeks Fincantieri has carried out training courses for the students of the Higher Colleges of Technology and of the Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research in Genova at the headquarter of its subsidiary company CETENA, Center for naval and maritime field research. Both universities are located in Abu Dhabi and among the most prestigious of the whole area. The aim of the activity was to raise awareness of Italian excellence in the marine sector in its various aspects (naval, cruise, megayachts) and increase the relationship with leading UAE universities that are opening up, in recent years, to the naval field.

The training courses have lasted respectively 8 weeks (Higher Colleges of Technology) and 6 weeks (Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research. Lectures, lab activities and guided tours were offered to the students during this time.

In particular, the lectures, typical of the maritime sector and held by Fincantieri’s staff and field experts, concerned: “Introduction to naval architecture”, “Project Management”, “Design”, “Construction and Outfitting”. The visits involved the two sites of the integrated naval shipyard in Riva Trigoso and Muggiano. Trips to the Group’s shipyards in Monfalcone, Marghera and Sestri, operating in the building of cruise ships, and to the University of Genoa were organized too.

The initiative confirms that training programs are a key factor in Fincantieri’s value chain as it operates in an “intensive-knowledge” sector: from years the company is offering to its employees - but not only - training courses aiming to capitalize/exploit and develop their expertise, which represents the company’s real endowment. In particular this project, which has been appreciated by the UAE government, will be crucial to arouse the young generation’s interest in Etihad Shipbuilding, the joint-venture which Fincantieri set up in 2010 with the Al Fattan shipyard in Abu Dhabi and which represents the natural logistic hub in the region.
