Construction of the first LNG carrier with the LNT A-BOX® containment technology reached a new milestone on January 10th, as the keel laying ceremony for CMHI-188 was held in Haimen.

The representatives of CMHI, Saga LNG Shipping as well as ABS class expressed their gratitude to the designers and other parties involved for the good cooperation and achievements made so far. “Reaching today’s milestone commemorates a significant achievement for Saga LNG, CMHI and all of our partners in this endeavor. As production reaches full swing, we are starting to see first-hand the results of many years of hard work and we shift our focus now executing the project with the highest safety and quality standards. We continue to believe that when she is delivered, our vessel will give the industry much needed flexibility in vessel size and will present the opportunity for new business models for LNG transport.” said Jonathan Verswijver, VP Business Development, Saga LNG Shipping.

LNG New Technologies (LNT) is very satisfied with the cooperation with the yard and other parties during the design and engineering phase, and is looking forward to embark on the next phases of the construction. In parallel with the progress at the yard, CSSC Shenghui Equipment Co.,Ltd. has been preparing for the cargo tank manufacturing during the last few months, and the construction process has now commenced at their stainless steel production line in Zhangjiagang.

The LNT A-BOX® containment system has been developed based on IMO independent tank type A with an insulation system with integrated secondary barrier and is a proprietary technology of LNT. The concept and contract design for the 45,000 m3 LNG carrier has been developed by LNT in close cooperation with the owner.
