K&L Gates' Public Policy and Law group congratulates Manny Rouvelas for his receipt of the most prestigious award conveyed on Maritime industry professionals, the Admiral of the Ocean Sea Award, presented by the United Seaman’s Service. He is the only practicing lawyer to date to have received this award.

The Public Policy and Law group would also like to congratulate the other 2013 award recipients, The Honorable Peter King, U.S. House of Representatives and Mr. Philip W.J. Fisher, Chas. Kurz & Co.

Manny’s legal practice has focused on the intersection of business, law, and policy for the maritime sector for more than 40 years. Equipped with only a card table and a telephone, Manny opened the Washington office of Seattle-based Preston, Thorgrimson, Ellis, Holman & Fletcher in 1973 to provide clients with representation and counsel focused on navigating government legislation and regulation.

What started as a Maritime boutique has now grown to a nationally ranked Public Policy and Law practice with more than 50 professionals covering diverse issue areas such as transportation and infrastructure, financial services, energy, healthcare, environmental, postal, federal funding, defense, fisheries, and emerging technology.

A respected leader in the Maritime industry, Manny, who was recently designated as a top lobbyist by The Hill newspaper, has been honored with a host of awards and received some of the highest rankings in various publications. Under Manny's leadership and guidance, the Public Policy and Law practice of K&L Gates celebrated its 40th anniversary on June 1, 2013.

In addition to this esteemed honor and his love for the Maritime industry, Manny has leveraged his legal and lobbying expertise to build one of the largest and strongest public policy and law practices in the nation and is actively involved in a host of other activities within the practice and the firm. Today, he continues to be a leader and visionary in both the maritime and lobbying sectors.
