A.P. Moller-Maersk to Build New Private Terminal in Portsmouth, Virginia

AP Moller-Mearsk A/S, the parent of Maersk Sealand steamship line, has signed off on building a private terminal that will have 3,500 feet of berthing space on nearly 300 acres of terminal, and will handle over 500,000 TEUs per year.

The deal began in 2001, when Maersk?s terminal division, APM Terminals, purchased 576 acres in Portsmouth for $2.8 million. Since that time, APM Terminals has been working to get state and federal environmental permits, as well as highway and rail access.
