Keppel Corporation, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, has made a $1 million donation to President's Challenge 2018 in support of its programmes to empower vulnerable groups in Singapore.

Dr. Lee Boon Yang, Chairman of Keppel Corporation, presented the cheque of $1 million to President Halimah Yacob, who received the donation on behalf of President's Challenge at the Keppel 50 Charity Run.

President Halimah said, "I am heartened that Keppel has chosen to celebrate its 50th anniversary by giving back to society, and helping the less privileged among us. I hope that companies in Singapore will continue to give generously, not only with financial support, but through volunteerism and sharing of knowledge and expertise."

In support of President's Challenge and to mark Keppel's golden jubilee, more than 200 Keppel staff participated in a 50-km relay run, starting from Keppel's operations at the eastern and western ends of Singapore, covering different business units along the way, and converging at Keppel Bay, the birthplace of the company, where it had started as a small shipyard in 1968. The run is also symbolic of Keppel staff across business units coming together, collaborating as OneKeppel to take the company forward.

Dr. Lee said, "Keppel seeks to make a positive impact on the community, wherever we operate, be it promoting education, caring for the environment, supporting the arts, or empowering and nurturing the underprivileged. In commemoration of Keppel's golden jubilee, we will be rolling out a series of meaningful corporate social responsibility activities, including this charity run, to engage our staff in doing well and doing good. We will do our part towards building a more caring and inclusive society."

For 2018, Keppel has pledged to achieve over 10,000 volunteer hours. At the Keppel 50 Charity Run, Keppel Volunteers held a crafts workshop in parallel to share this special occasion with children from Care Corner and seniors from Montfort Care.
