Rolls-Royce Secures Designs
Rolls-Royce has won a £16m order to provide design, integrated power and propulsion systems and equipment for a large anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) offshore vessel for ship owner Secunda Canada LP.
The advanced vessel will be of type UT 782 WP design and is to be built in Poland at the Remontowa shipyard. Secunda Canada has entered a five-year agreement with ExxonMobil, with options for 20 years, to support the Hibernia and Hebron fields’ offshore Newfoundland. The vessel’s main role will be the transport of cargo, with ancillary roles including ice management and anchor handling.

Secunda Canada’s co-owner, Norwegian company Siem Offshore, has also played an active part in the development of the new UT 782 WP design.
The wave piercing (WP) design has been optimized bow to stern for the demanding scope and harsh North Atlantic conditions, and includes the latest technologies to increase safety for vessel crew and operations. At the heart of the vessel is a robust hybrid propulsion system from Rolls-Royce which increases the vessel’s operational redundancy and minimizes impact to the environment through low fuel consumption.

This will be the first AHTS vessel equipped with the innovative Unified Bridge from Rolls-Royce, and also the first vessel with our innovative wave piercing bow design to enter the North American market.”
The Rolls-Royce designed UT 782 WP anchor handling vessels will encompass integrated systems provided by Rolls-Royce, including applications for propulsion, power generation, automation, deck machinery and cargo handling. The overall length of the vessel will be 87.3 metres with a beam of 20 metres and a dead weight of approximately 4000 tons.
The vessel will be ready for delivery in the second half of 2015.
