Singapore Builds Funtasy Island

Published Dec 7, 2014 7:09 PM by The Maritime Executive

Work has begun to turn the Riau Archipelago near Singapore into Funtasy Island, the world’s largest eco-resort.

The $240m million development will stretch out over a cluster of six islands covering almost 3.3 million square metres. The archipelago lies 16 kilometres off the coast of Singapore and is an Indonesian territory.

Roughly 70 percent of the islands will be preserved in their natural state with nature trails and aquatic tours for visitors.

The resort is being designed by WOW Design Studio. It will have a world-class marina and will provide services to take guests on the 20 minute journey to Singapore’s attractions including Marina Bay Sands and Orchard Road.

Funtasy Island is scheduled to welcome its first guests in late 2015.
