ExxonMobil/SeaRiver Maritime and Lloyd's List to receive Maritime Ministry Awards
The North American Maritime Ministry Association (NAMMA) announced that ExxonMobil/SeaRiver Maritime Inc. and Lloyd’s List are the recipients of this year’s maritime ministry awards. The awards are given to a corporation and an individual or organization that demonstrate a commitment to benefit seafarers. The awards will be presented on October 25 at the World Maritime Day Observance in New York.
ExxonMobil/SeaRiver Maritime Inc. will receive NAMMA’s Seafarer’s Salute Award for its programs and practices benefiting its seafarers. “ExxonMobil/SeaRiver Maritime have developed and instituted programs such as its Loss Prevention System (LPS) which is a structured, proactive approach that addresses all forms of safety, environmental and operational parameters and enables employees to be more actively involved in identifying and controlling risks”, stated Maggie Whittingham-Lamont, President of NAMMA. “The company’s policy is to prepare seafarers for their role at sea, and support them both on the water and on land.” Will Jenkins will be accepting the award on behalf of the company.
Lloyd’s List, and the dedicated contributions of Julian Bray, Michael Grey and Rajesh Joshi, will receive the Joe R. Gerson Humanitarian Award for their efforts on behalf of seafarers. “Lloyd’s List continually supports the seafarer by highlighting risks they encounter, the environment in which they work, and keeps the industry on its toes in valuing their worth”, stated Mrs. Whittingham-Lamont. “They are dogged in keeping the spotlight on “best and worst practices.”
The awards will be presented by IMO Secretary-General Efthimios Mitropoulos at the NAMMA Awards Luncheon being held on October 25 as part of World Maritime Day Observance. In addition to the NAMMA awards luncheon, the World Maritime Day Observance will also feature a conference on “IMO’s Response to Current Environmental Challenges” and a Reception and Dinner celebrating the founding of the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA).
