Sea Shepherd Offering Hurricane Support to Sint Maarten
Sea Shepherd's vessel the M/V John Paul DeJoria is setting out on “Operation: Sint Maarten” to bring disaster relief aid to the victims of Hurricane Irma.
The organization is raising $30,000 for fuel in order to reach the island of Sint Maarten and assist all those that are in need since a large portion of the island was destroyed by the storm. The island specifically seeks baby supplies such as formula, diapers, wipes, as well as canned goods, water purification methods, along with antibacterial goods such as sanitizer and wipes.
In addition to relief supplies, Sea Shepherd will also bring pet food for the many homeless dogs and cats on the island.
The island of St. Martin was divided in the 17th century into the French territory of Saint-Martin and the Dutch territory of Sint Maarten. Sea Shepherd has a close relationship with the Netherlands, having received campaign and vessel support from the Dutch Postcode Lottery and the Dutch Registry of Shipping.
“This campaign gives us the opportunity to demonstrate our appreciation for that support,” said Sea Shepherd Founder and CEO Captain Paul Watson.
