Port Everglades is Monitoring Hurricane Irma and Making Preparations

Broward County’s Port Everglades is closely monitoring the progress of Hurricane Irma. Over the weekend, the Port asked all tenants to review their hurricane plan and the U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Information Bulletin for the 2017 hurricane season. The Port follows the U.S. Coast Guard regulations for operating the Port during storm conditions.

There are a variety of cruise, cargo and petroleum ships scheduled to arrive this week and the coming weekend that could be affected by heavy weather.

Today, Port staff will be conducting surveys in anticipation of the possible declaration of Condition Whisky by the Coast Guard, which would happen 72 hours before the arrival of sustained tropical storm force winds.
 
Cruise passengers should contact their cruise line for updates regarding cruise ship schedules. Friends and family members of passengers currently on a cruise and scheduled to arrive this weekend should also contact their cruise line for updates on any possible schedule or port changes. 

Cruise passengers flying into Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), should also contact their airline for information on flight arrivals and departures before, during and after the storm.

Currently, three petroleum ships are in port with another two waiting off-shore. The Port's 12 petroleum tenants provide gas and other petroleum products to 12 Florida counties and four international airports.
