Imtech: 400 Million Energy Contract for 800 Buildings in Germany
Imtech N.V. has secured an important breakthrough in the European energy-efficiency market. Imtech will make 800 buildings mainly used by a leading German logistic company considerable more efficient. The contract has a value of more than 400 million euro and runs for a contract period of fifteen and a half years, starting July 2011. Imtech will take the complete responsibility for optimum supply, maintenance and management of all energy-related needs on the basis of a professional energy contracting model. Extra energy measures will be implemented, including energy savings and CO2-neutral energy supply by innovative co-generation (combined heat and power) technology and solar energy. The order is the largest energy-efficiency contract in Germany and the biggest contract ever in 150 years of Imtech history.
• The largest energy-efficiency contract in Germany
• Biggest contract ever in 150 years of Imtech history
• Unique energy-efficiency services for property portfolios
René van der Bruggen, CEO Imtech: 'For Imtech, this order represents a breakthrough in the European energy management and energy-efficiency market. The unique Imtech competency in the field of energy contracting and our specific knowledge of energy technology means that - in combination with our network of more than 65 branches in Germany - we can offer energy services on a national scale. For the 800 buildings, this will result in considerable annual energy savings during the lifetime of the contract, a yearly reduction in CO2 emissions of 17,000 tons, and significant cost savings. The order not only reflects the strong position that Imtech occupies in the European energy-efficiency market, but also paves the way for similar orders from other parties with property portfolios spread across a large geographical area. This is a triple-win situation: for the environment, the customer and Imtech. In due course, this will lead to further future growth for Imtech.'
The goals: energy-efficiency, emissions reduction and cost savings
The project involves a total of 800 buildings totalling more than 1.7 million square metres of property throughout Germany. The objectives are to significantly increase the energy-efficiency of these buildings, achieve a large-scale reduction in emissions, and cut their operational costs. The energy savings are substantial. They will amount to dozens of percentages, depending on the exact form of a special refinancing operation related to multiple energy efficiency measurements. Beside this, the energy-efficiency contract, after a period of implementation, will guarantee yearly substantial reductions in heating costs. As integral part of the contract a part of the business activities of the co-operation and business partner Lorac Investment Management will be acquired by Imtech.
Imtech-scope
At present, the 800 buildings consume about 170,000 MWh every year for heating and cooling, and 85,000 MWh for electricity. The thermal power outputs in the buildings, distributed by around 700 boiler plants, range from a few kilowatts to a maximum of 9,000 kW. On the basis of an energy-contracting model, Imtech will take the total responsibility for the optimum supply, maintenance and management of the complete energy-related infrastructure in every building. Imtech will also be optimising the energy performance by integrating the entire energy process in every operational system and process. This will result not only in high levels of energy-efficiency, but also in considerable reductions in emissions and cost savings. Imtech will of course be taking the energy and other needs of users into account and will guarantee the highest quality standards in energy provision. At the same time, additional energy-saving measures will be taken, such as the implementation of innovative co-generation (combined heat and power) technology, and more than 40,000 square metres of photovoltaic cells for the immediate conversion of sunlight into electricity, which guarantees an independent, environmental friendly and CO2-neutral energy supply.
Environmental protection and conservation of natural resources
The implementation of co-generation and photovoltaic energy offers great advantages compared to traditional (coal) or nuclear power plants and emphasizes Imtech's highest CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) priority: environmental protection and conservation of natural resources. The Imtech combination of efficient energy supply, best-possible use of existing energy systems, additional energy savings and optimisation, and the additional environmental friendly and CO2-neutral energy supply means that the ambitious objectives of the client can be attained during the lifetime of the contract. Further growth in the European energy market is entirely in line with the company's strategic growth plan for 2015.
