PC Maritime Launches New Version of its Engine Room Simulator

9 October: PC Maritime has launched a new version of its Engine Room Simulator. The VER simulator, which is type approved and compliant with the STCW and ISM Codes, is used for ships’ engine room training, based on a slow speed diesel engine. Equipped with all controls and alarms found in a real engine room, the user interface creates a realistic learning environment. Faults can be injected into the simulator and student competence measured accurately with built-in standardised assessment tests.

The VER simulator is used by maritime training establishments worldwide. PC Maritime has recently installed six systems in the Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training, Cochin, and three in the Marine Engineering Research Institute, Kolkata.

The simulator can be run on a single PC with 2-screen support, on a network or a bespoke hardware console. VER Version 4 offers the following enhancements for the main engine:

• Variable injection timing;
• Combustion analysis;
• Exhaust gas emission monitoring; and
• Emergency control.

Other new applications include:

• Stern tube lubricating;
• Sewage treatment plant;
• Garbage and sludge incinerator;
• Air conditioning system; and
• Own ship simplified model
