Published Dec 11, 2015 8:42 AM by The Maritime Executive

As the nature of our business in the offshore temporary accommodation rental supply business – all good rentals must come to an end. HB Rentals announces the return to port of the Edda Fjord accommodation vessel with permanent living quarters for 90 POB, supplemented by an HB Rentals temporary living quarters installation for 84 POB. The TLQ installation initially went on rent July 2012 and has now returned to the Port of Galveston.

Project scope of work included seven sleeper ABS accommodation modules; ABS galley, diner and gym modules; ABS phone room, office, conference room, change room and food storage / preparation modules and two restroom modules. Additional scope in this HB end-to-end package included 44 platforms, 15 stairways, 2 walkways, 12 short steps and 16 stair supports. F&G panels, gas detection power cords, distribution/transformer skid, 6 single light stands, 2 receptacle racks, 2 USCG approved MSD units, 9 sewage lift pumps; and a water purification, food grinder, trash compactor and ice & water dispenser were also include in the total project scope.

The Edda Fjord will be distinctly remembered for its extended rental term and the fact that it was one of HB’s most customized installations. It is an excellent example of a supplier/client partnership in which close coordination between HB Rentals and Edda Accommodation resulted in a highly responsive and competitive solution for the GOM market. The Edda Fjord supported multiple projects across the Gulf of Mexico for a three year period with initial work in offshore Mexico, then Mississippi Canyon, then back to Mexico and then to offshore Texas. The Edda Fjord stayed busy. To keep the vessel operating, HB Rentals supported Edda Accommodation with refurbishment of both the temporary and portions of the permanent living quarters.

As a multi-purpose vessel, the Edda Fjord is one of the most versatile vessels in the Østensjø Rederi fleet. She has handled tasks as diverse as accommodation services, construction work, cable-lay and repairs, trenching, ROV surveys and supply duties. The vessel is designed with an emphasis on high performance, low emissions, efficiency, safety and economic performance. She has a unique modular design where both cargo rails and crane are bolted on and can be removed in just a few days. She is also fully equipped for PSV mode and was, at the time of commissioning, the largest PSV ever built worldwide. And she is still among the largest. “The Edda Fjord’s work in the Gulf of Mexico included providing accommodation, food and housekeeping services for rig workers on different projects. She features a 200 ton removable crane, 13,670 square feet of available deck space, and is able to support both shallow and deep water projects”, said Stian S. Waage, Fleet Manager, Edda Accommodation.

The Edda Fjord is currently anchored off the Port of Galveston and awaiting its next assignment. In the unique nature of HB Rentals relationship with Edda Accommodation, the TLQ accommodation complex has been kept on board to maximize flexibility and accelerate mobilization schedule – in preparation for the next opportunity – before the Edda Fjord sets sail again.
