DuPont Sustainable Solutions Awarded Contract to Supply DuPont? Marine Scrubber

Published Dec 7, 2015 7:53 PM by The Maritime Executive

Jiangsu Hantong Shipyard Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. has awarded DuPont Sustainable Solutions (DuPont) a contract to supply DuPont Marine Scrubber systems for two new-build, self-unloading bulk carriers. The scrubber systems were developed by Belco Technologies Corporation (BELCO), a DuPont subsidiary.

Vulica Shipping Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of U.S.-based Vulcan Materials, owns the carriers, which will operate throughout the Gulf of Mexico. Each ship will feature one multi-inlet scrubber, handling exhaust from multiple auxiliary engines, and one single-inlet scrubber dedicated to the main engine. The DuPont scrubber designs are in-line and allow for operation without fans or a bypass. The scrubbers have DuPont “run-dry” capability, allowing the ships to move easily in and out of the Emission Control Area. The systems will meet all U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. EPA and IMO SOx emission and wash water requirements. In addition to removing SOx, these scrubbers also reduce particulate matter (PM).

The two vessels are Vulica’s first to include scrubbers. Delivery for the first unit is expected in late 2016 with sea trial performance testing in 2017. Visit http://www.marinescrubber.dupont.com for more information.
