Thermamax Expands Operations to China

Published Nov 12, 2014 7:05 PM by The Maritime Executive

High temperature insulation equipment manufacturer Thermamax has opened a new branch in Taicang, close to Shanghai, China.

BDD Group, the holding company for Thermamax Hochtemperaturdämmungen in Germany and Thermamax Inc. in the U.S., will use the move to provide a local presence to existing and international customers.

Thanks to cooperation arrangements with local manufacturing companies, customers in China, and Asia generally, can have Thermamax tried and tested products delivered directly from Taicang, says Jochen Früh, general manager of Taicang Thermamax High Temperature Insulation Equipment. That means shorter delivery times, a simpler business model, and ensures conditions concerning local content are met.

The new company headquarters is in Taicang’s Rhine River Center, about an hour by road north of the economic metropolis of Shanghai. Taicang, with 500,000 population and situated in Jiangsu Province, is very much the German model city in China with nearly 200 German companies represented there.

Initially the new company will focus on the marine market sector, however it is planned to gradually develop those markets in which Thermamax is already established worldwide outside China, including automotive, oil and gas and power generation.

In August this year Thermamax China delivered the first prototypes of an insulation cladding system for a complex exhaust line. The complete manufacturing process was successfully audited by customer representatives, and Früh and his team are building on that success to expand the Thermamax Group further in China.
