[UPDATED] Shipping at a Standstill on the Great Lakes Due to Superstorm Sandy
UPDATE:
After a complete shutdown of marine traffic, shipping on the Great Lakes has resumed as severe winds and waves from Hurricane Sandy's aftermath subside.
At least four ships were under way in southern Lake Huron as of yesterday. Six freighters were also headed out Wednesday on Lake Superior.

As of Tuesday, cargo shipping on the Great Lakes was still at a complete halt due to the effects of the massive Hurricane Sandy. Ship crews have been forced to seek shelter as 20-foot-high waves are still churning on the Lakes.
The giant freighters that generally carry bulk commodities across the waters have mostly taken refuge in local bays and harbors to avoid the wrath of the “Frankenstorm”.
Shipping associations have noted that they are unaware of any vessel traffic on the Great Lakes, even up to Canadian waters.
Port of Green Bay has informed The Maritime Executive that two idle cargo ships remained at their port as a result of the storm.
