SENER Takes Part in ICOE 2010

Published Jan 12, 2011 9:31 AM by The Maritime Executive

Ocean energy projects such as BIMEP, EMERGE and OCEAN LIDER will be shown in the event, as well as marine engineering projects such as the FORAN System, a CAD/CAM software for the design and conceptual work on ships that nowadays is being use by shipyards all over the world.

SENER takes part in ICOE 2010 as a world reference company in renewable energies, with some of the company’s main projects showed in its booth. In ocean energy, SENER is involved, as Engineering company of the Basque Energy Agency (EVE), in BIMEP (Biscay Marine Energy Platform), a project from the EVE to develop an infrastructure for testing and demonstrating open-sea wave energy converters. BIMEP is set to become one of the most important facilities of this kind in the world. Besides, SENER takes part in other two projects of marine power development, OCEAN LIDER and EMERGE, both of them leaded by Iberdrola. OCEAN LIDER is a project orientated to the investigation in new technologies and energy production systems from renewable ocean sources, such as wave energy, tidal energy, including hybrid systems that allow the simultaneous capture of wind and waves or tidal currents. On the other hand, EMERGE is a R&D project for the development of floating wind turbine supports. In all of them, SENER will contribute with the quality and excellence that have been its hallmark throughout the fifty-plus years of operations.

SENER’s capacity for anticipation in the power field, as well as its ambitious technological development program, have made the company a pioneer in the field of renewable energies, with innovative projects with its own technology in solar power, new Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) treatment processes and treatments for manure and oils, always based on efficient energy use.

SENER is a multinational engineering, construction and systems integration company that has become an international benchmark in Power and Process, Aerospace, Civil and Architecture, and Marine Engineering. In this last field, along with ship engineering activities, SENER has also developed the renowned FORAN, a CAD/CAM software system used for design and production of ships and offshore. The system is used by shipyards in countries such as Japan, China, Russia, the United States, Brazil, Italy, France and the United Kingdom, among others. Due to the improvement that this software has meant to the international marine market, in 2008 SENER was awarded with the Prince Felipe Award for Business Excellence, given by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade.
