Iraq Opens Ship Repair Facility with Aid from U.S.

With assistance from the U.S. Naval Sea Command, the Iraqi navy has opened a ship repair facility for five vessel classes, divided into five major work centers.  It is equipped by the United States as part of a Foreign Military Sales Agreement. 

The U.S. Navy is and will continue to provide the personnel with training and technical support. 

NAVSEA began the operation last year by acquiring, installing, and providing training for maintenece and repair equipment. There are over 40 industrial machines, as well as spare parts and support equipment. NAVSEA also helped in the repair and maintenence of Iraqi patrol boats. 

This ship repair facility is located in Umm Qar, Iraq. According to Iraqi navy officials, it is state-of-the-art and will help grow their fleet.
