HAROPA Awards Green Shipping

awards

HAROPA, the fifth largest port complex in Northern Europe and joint venture between the ports of Le Havre, Rouen and Paris, reaffirmed its backing of shipping companies that commit themselves to environmental protection by awarding trophies on Wednesday.

HAROPA awarded 13 trophies to 12 shipping companies for their green port calls: 12 for Le Havre and one for Rouen. The purpose of the trophies is to encourage shipowners to reduce air emissions, voluntarily going beyond regulatory requirements.

A score is given to each participating ship based on several parameters including the performance of her engines, the facilities and equipment on board and the quality of the fuels used.

The financial rewards gained can reach up to the equivalent of 10 percent of port dues.

Since its creation in 2012, 21 shipping companies have signed the HAROPA charter and, by the end of 2015, HAROPA had rewarded a total of 890 calls.

Originally exclusively maritime, the award now extends to river shipping.

The shipping lines that received awards (in alphabetical order) are:

APL
CMA CGM Le Havre and CMA CGM Rouen
