CYTUR Inc., a maritime cybersecurity specialist led by CEO Yonghyun Jo, announced that its shipboard equipment cybersecurity management platform, CYTUR-SBOM (Security Bill of Materials), has received both the Innovation Endorsement from Japan’s ClassNK and Novel Technology Approval from Italy’s RINA.
The dual recognition marks a significant milestone for CYTUR-SBOM, demonstrating international acknowledgment of its technological innovation and potential for maritime applications. The platform integrates hardware and software asset information for shipboard equipment and provides systematic visibility into cybersecurity status.
ClassNK’s Innovation Endorsement for Products & Solutions is an independent third-party certification program that evaluates the innovative features and technical feasibility of products and solutions. RINA’s Novel Technology Approval assesses the technical feasibility and potential maritime applications of emerging technologies.
Through these approvals from two major international classification societies, CYTUR has further strengthened the global credibility of CYTUR-SBOM and established a stronger foundation for expanding its business among international shipyards and marine equipment manufacturers.
As the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) Unified Requirements UR E26 and E27 come into effect, systematic asset management and cybersecurity compliance documentation have become increasingly important in the shipbuilding and maritime industries.
The requirements apply to applicable vessels contracted for construction on or after July 1, 2024, requiring systematic management of hardware and software inventories, network configuration information, and supporting evidence of compliance with cybersecurity requirements.
However, shipbuilding projects involve numerous equipment manufacturers and system integrators, resulting in hardware configurations, software versions, and security-related information being distributed across multiple suppliers. Manually collecting and managing this information can lead to missing records, version inconsistencies, and significant time and labor requirements for preparing and verifying classification documentation.
CYTUR-SBOM was developed to address these challenges as an integrated cybersecurity asset management and regulatory compliance support platform specifically designed for the maritime industry. It enables shipyards, system integrators (SIs), and equipment manufacturers to centrally manage ship-specific Computer-Based System (CBS) asset information, systematically check security requirements, record assessment results, and streamline the preparation of classification submission documents.
Key capabilities include integrated hardware and software asset management, automated generation of network topology diagrams and Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs) based on registered asset information, item-by-item security capability checks, assessment result recording, and related report generation. The platform also correlates registered asset information with known cybersecurity vulnerabilities (CVEs), enabling users to identify vulnerabilities, assess asset-level risks, and prioritize security management activities.
Unlike conventional Software Bill of Materials solutions, CYTUR-SBOM extends beyond software component inventories to encompass shipboard hardware, software, network configurations, security vulnerabilities, and regulatory compliance documentation.
This integrated approach enables shipyards to manage cybersecurity information collected from multiple equipment suppliers through a consistent framework. It also helps equipment manufacturers reduce the administrative burden associated with preparing and submitting cybersecurity documentation required under international regulations.
CYTUR previously received ClassNK Innovation Endorsements for CYTUR-TM, CYTUR-SC, and CYTUR-TI, as well as RINA Novel Technology Approvals for CYTUR-TM and CYTUR-SC and RINA Approval in Principle (AiP) for CYTUR-SAVD.
With CYTUR-SBOM now recognized by both classification societies, CYTUR has expanded its portfolio to four certified or approved products under each society, further strengthening its global competitiveness in lifecycle cybersecurity technologies spanning ship design, construction, commissioning, and operation.
Yonghyun Jo, CEO of CYTUR, stated, “Maritime cybersecurity goes beyond securing individual devices. It begins with accurately identifying and systematically managing the various equipment and software components installed onboard a vessel. CYTUR-SBOM was developed to automate complex equipment information management, security checks, and documentation processes, helping shipyards and equipment manufacturers reduce their operational burden.”
He added, “Receiving recognition from both Japanese and Italian classification societies is a meaningful achievement that demonstrates the international competitiveness of CYTUR-SBOM. Moving forward, we will continue to advance our Secure by Design approach, strengthening cybersecurity technologies that connect every stage of a vessel’s lifecycle—from design and construction to delivery and operation—while expanding our presence in the global maritime and shipbuilding markets.
