A container ship, M/V Northern Democrat collided with another box ship, M/V MOL Empire, in Westport Harbor at Port Klang in Malaysia. Three of the containers being transported by the Northern Democrat, which is a Liberian-flagged box ship, fell overboard.  The accident was due to higher speed and strong winds, which cause the ship to drifted and collide with the MOL Empire, a Hong Kong-flagged vessel.  A shore crane was also damaged.

There were no injuries and the vessels did not have structural damage, which would affect their seaworthiness.

The Northern Democrat is a 3500 TEU ships built in 2009. The MOL Empire is a 5,100 TEU box ship constructed in 2010.
