BOURBON Receives High Honors At Seatrade China

Seatrade China Awards 2010 honors Huang Pingtao with Lifetime Achievement Award
Over 200 top shipping executives gathered at the Shangri-La Hotel in Dalian tonight to honour 17 well-deserving award winners at the inaugural Seatrade China Awards.
The rapid development of the China maritime industry makes it a timely entrance for the Seatrade China Awards to recognise industry forerunners who have made significant contributions over the past 12 months in this hugely important market. The presence of Chinese heavyweights at the black tie gala dinner event generated much excitement and buzz in the Grand Ballroom of the Shangri-La hotel, Dalian.
The gala evening was capped off with the Seatrade Lifetime Achievement Award going to Mr Huang Pingtao, Chairman of the China Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (CSNAME).Mr. Huang Pingtao, born on 3 January 1938, graduated from Ha-er-bin Military Engineering University, and obtained his bachelor degree in submarine engineering major. Under Mr. Huang’s capable leadership, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and China Ship building Industry Corporation (CSIC) experienced fast and healthy growth, which secured China’s leading position in the world shipbuilding market. Mr. Huang was elected the chairman of CSNAME in 2002 and he has become instrumental in the close collaboration between CSNAME and the international shipping community.
Claiming the Entrepreneur of the Year was Mr Wang Deming, President of Qingdao Zhenghe Shipping Co Ltdwhose outstanding entrepreneurship and unparalleled market perspectives have brought about rapid developments to Zhenghe Shipping in less than 10 years. Today Zhenghe Shipping is a famous Enterprise Group with excellent reputation.
The Seatrade Young Person of the Year went to Mr Sun Hong, General Manager of Dalian Port Corporation, who received the Award from his role model Capt Wei Jiafu, Chairman, China Shipowners’ Association and President and CEO, COSCO Group. The Award recognizes an individual below 45 years of age who has made an exceptional personal contribution to the China maritime industry.
Two other notable awards were the Deal of the Year, secured by BOURBON for its deal, signed in July 2010, with Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group to build 62 ships and the Ship of the Year which was a 180,000 dwt Chinese capesize developed by China Ship Design & Research Center Co., Ltd., and designed in collaboration with Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. Hebei Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd had taken an active part in pre-research and concept design.
