Noreq As, norwegian producer of maritime deck equipment and German company Fr. Fassmer GmbH & Co agree to further develop the Torpedo Free Fall lifeboat.

In 2008 Noreq launched the Torpedo lifeboat as the evacuation method for offshore use. It is also fully equipped to meet the demands of tomorrow regarding rules and regulations for the North Sea. The cooperation agreement with Fassmer is a confirmation of the interest the Torpedo lifeboat has drawn.

Fr. Fassmer GmbH & Co is a well established corporation within the maritime industry. They have 900 employees and a turnover of approximately € 100 million. Fassmer is amongst the world’s largest fabricators of lifeboats for the cruise industry in addition to traditional shipbuilding and high tech composite material production. The agreement will secure extended access to design-, development- and engineering capacities. The joint venture between Noreq and Fassmer is dedicated to the Torpedo Free Fall and will focus on offshore projects both globally and for the North Sea.

Increasing safety offshore

In recent years the focus on the capabilities and features of free fall lifeboats offshore has drawn high attention. The Torpedo lifeboat is representing a new and innovative alternative to ordinary free fall lifeboats. Its design and capabilities have been thoroughly tested at Marintek in Norway where key features such as directional stability and reduced stress to on onboard personnel have been recognized as a safer and better alternative to traditional free fall systems. The cooperation between the two companies represents a breakthrough for the Torpedo lifeboat to take marked shares in the offshore segment. With all the upgrading of free fall systems world wide taken in consideration, the market potential for the Torpedo is considerably high.
