MITAGS Technology Center Announces Grand Opening of its Marine Simulation Technology Center
The Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) invites the maritime community to the grand opening of its marine simulation technology center on March 26, 2007, from 1630 to 1930 hours. For those interested in attending, please RSVP to Ms. Brandi Smith at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The festive event will include a reception, entertainment, and continuous tours of the various technology centers, including the full-mission bridges, the towing simulators, the 14-station computer lab, the vessel traffic, the All-Weather Navigation, and the new crane simulator.
•Full-Mission Shiphandling Simulator #1
This is one of the largest and most sophisticated class A full-mission simulators in the world. It has been upgraded and integrated into two towing, six part-tasks, and one vessel traffic simulators. All simulators are equipped with Automatic Identification Systems (AIS), Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems, Vessel Traffic Controls, and the very latest in visual projection systems. The systems are supported by an experienced in-house team of database and hydrodynamic modelers.
•Full-Mission Towing Simulator (SHS#3)
This simulator utilizes a unique 330° horizontal and an unprecedented 42° vertical field of views. This simulator works in tandem with the Full-Mission Simulator #2, and Towing Simulator #4. SHS#3 & 4 are specifically designed for ship assist and escort training (direct and indirect towing forces).
The completion of the $2 million upgrade is on top of the $3 million upgrade of Shiphandling Simulator #2 (SHS#2), completed in 2002. These investments were made in response to the growing demand for high-quality simulation training and operational research at both MITAGS and the Pacific Maritime’s Seattle facility. These innovative upgrades improve the realism for a large cross section of maritime training and research requirements including:
•Multiple Tug and Barge Handling Operations
•LNG Docking/Undocking Operations and Research
•Single Point Mooring
•Offshore Oil/Gas Platform Support
•U.S. Navy Underway Replenishment at Sea Evolutions
•Coast Guard Search and Rescue Operations
•Senior Pilot and Master Training
•STCW95 Advanced Shiphandling Training and Assessment
•Bridge Resource Management Training and Assessment
•Port and Vessel Feasibility Studies
•Vessel Traffic Training and Research
