Intertanko Fleet Grows

Independent tanker owners' representative organization Intertanko says that its fleet has grown by 12.5% to 194 million DWT.

The two biggest new owner members are "Frontline," with a fleet totaling 13.3 million DWT, and "American Eagle Tankers with 6.1 million DWT.

The next 6 entries will be Marmaras Navigation, Sea Fortune Shipping, Estoril Navigation, A.K.Shipping and Trading, Eastwind Shipmanagement, FR8 Ship Management, and Calisa SpA, all with 1.6 million DWT between them. The other new members of JB Ugland, Zest Shipping, FAL Shipping, Transmarine Management, and Chemmariner Shipping, currently have 250,000 DWT between them.

"We are delighted to welcome these new members to INTERTANKO," said Stephen Van Dyck, Chairman of the Association. "They will add new weight and impetus to our work, and re-emphasize the authority of the Association and all that we do in the tanker industry."

Intertanko's share of the independent tanker and chemical carrier fleet, over 5,000 DWT, is now 66%. The organization currently represents 78% of the independent fleet of those companies with 1 million DWT or more and 75% of the independent fleet of those companies with 10 tankers or more. It also represents over 80% of the chemical tanker fleet.
