Singtel is happy to announce the launch of Singtel Satellite All-in-One (AIO) SmartBox and Mobile App, held on 27 August 2015 at the Grand Park Orchard, Singapore.

At this inaugural event, Singtel unveiled the much awaited Singtel All-in-One (AIO) SmartBox and Mobile App. The event was opened by Mr Lim Kian Soon, Head of Singtel Satellite Group, who delivered a strong message that Maritime industry is heading towards Smart Shipping, full automation and information management are key factors. Singtel addresses key business challenges like lack of IT expertise on board vessels to manage the ship IT setup, Shore IT managers lack tools to help them monitor and configure and take control of IT networks on board, the need for effective combination of remote monitoring and satellite communications solutions for business and crew and maritime cybersecurity. The game changers will improve operational efficiency and crew welfare.

AIO SmartBox is an onboard centralized control box to allow Shore IT managers to take full control of the firewall settings remotely. They can now monitor the activities on board and implement new IT policies from their land office. Seamlessly integrated with Singtel’s maritime broadband services, SmartBox is an access point between the IT systems on board and the outside world.

It comes with a crew prepaid solution that allows Captains to issue voice and data PINs and vouchers to crew simply by accessing the onboard Smartbox dashboard. A big step improvement from today’s way of issuing crew vouchers via emails from shore. All PINs and vouchers sold will be sychronized with shore so that crew purchases are well documented for charging later. Shore IT managers still have full control of the quantity of the PINs and vouchers per vessel.

AIO Mobile App

• Captain and crew can enjoy the convenience of BYOD onboard and consistent user experience be it at sea or on land.

• Cut cost through bandwidth efficient SmartPacket™ compression technology (2.15 to 6kbps) for low bandwidth consumption, as compared to other typical commercial VoIP codec of 24k-30kbps.

• Save time by having immediate access to contact list in their smartphones.

• Improve crew welfare and operational efficiency with the ability to send text, photo, audio and video messages between ship and shore for both business and crew easily.

The event was well attended by industry partners, members of associations, and IT and shipping professionals. There was a live demonstration of the solutions and booths were set up for hands on experience.
