Port Canaveral Community Contributes to Relief Efforts in Puerto Rico

Port Canaveral has been a center of activity for multiple coordinated relief efforts to aid the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico by providing needed resources to the island as the recovery process continues in the wake of Hurricane Maria. 

In recent weeks, Beyel Brothers Crane and Rigging partnered with Port tenant, Marine Terminal Operator Ambassador Services Inc. to transport vital communications equipment, infrastructure, emergency supplies and equipment to the island, including pallets of bottled water, bundles of fiber optic cables, vehicles, and light poles.

Port Canaveral was selected by Beyel Brothers for the mission due to its central location, to expedite the delivery of materials arriving to the Port from all over the State of Florida and Georgia. The established partnerships Beyel Brothers has developed with the Port Canaveral community has been integral in expediting relief efforts.

“Port Canaveral is proud to play a role in the recovery efforts for the people of Puerto Rico,” said Port CEO John Murray. “We are fully committed to this Herculean effort to deliver the much-needed supplies as quickly as possible”, stated Captain Murray.

On October 23, 2017, approximately 2,500 light poles held in laydown yards at Ambassador Services Inc. were bundled and loaded onto the Kaylee Frances barge, which was powered by the Megan Beyel ocean-going tug for the 8-day transit to the island. The cargo will arrive in Puerto Rico in the coming days.

Today, the JMC180 barge powered by the Daniel Beyel ocean-going tug will carry the second shipment of relief supplies that includes utility vehicles, reels of fiber optic cable and pallets of bottled water departed from Port Canaveral and is expected to arrive to Puerto Rico next week.
