Sanmar Delivers New Tug Boat
Sanmar, a leading tugboat manufacturer based in Turkey, delivered a new tug boat to one of its global customers. The completed construction of a new design of Rascal class, the 1500, was sold to Norwegian owner operator, Buksér og Berging AS.
Barge, as the vessel is named, was designed by Robert Allan Ltd. The tug boats hull has been carefully crafted to warrant good sea-keeping, maneuverability and steadiness in all modes of operation. Inspiration was centered around a wide array of previously successful tug designs that proved seaworthy.
The tug exceeded all performance expectations on trials ensuring the use for tough jobs. Sanmar is known for extremely high quality standards that is typically seen in yachts and applied their craftsmanship into the vessel.
The dimensions of the 1500 are as follows:
• Length: 14.9 m
• Beam: 8.3 m
• Depth: 3.0 m
• Draft: 3.1 m
The tug boat is equipped with a hydraulic DMT winch and a Data tow hook. A top speed of 9.9 knots was achieved from the main engines which are powered by two 350kW Caterpillar C18. Auxiliary power runs by a pair of C4.4 generator sets, each 86kW by Caterpillar.
Below the main deck, two twin berth cabins house sleeping accommodations, a pantry, a communal head and restroom. Barge is being operated in Norway and will be one of many 1500’s to be built.
