SAFE Delivers Vessel to Police Service
SAFE Boats International Partners with Windsor Police Service & Windsor Port Authority to Deliver a New 29' High Speed, Multi-Mission Homeland Security Response Boat.
SAFE Boats International (SBI) recently delivered a new 29-foot multi-mission rapid response boat to the Windsor Police Service. The SAFE 29 Walk Around Cabin vessel is the first of its kind to be purchased in Canada and will be launched and commissioned in a ceremony scheduled for April 10th, 2014 hosted by the Windsor Port Authority. The acquisition of the vessel was made possible by a collaborative effort between the town of Windsor Police Service and the Windsor Port Authority and a strategic partnership with SAFE Boats International.
The aptly named “Defender” is the most advanced small security vessel of its kind in Canada. It features SAFE Boats International’s high performance aluminum hull design, a fully climate controlled walk around cabin, SAFE’s patented, advanced solid foam collar technology and meets strict Canadian certification standards. The high-speed “Defender” is outfitted with twin 300hp four-stroke outboards, state-of-the-art navigation equipment, thermal imaging camera system, sonar capabilities and fire monitor.
“Obtaining this boat was a huge collaborative undertaking and we’re very proud,” said Peter Berry, Windsor Harbourmaster. “We love the boat’s speed and maneuverability and no other manufacturer could meet our mission requirement. This is definitely the first of hopefully more SAFE Boats to come. The excitement within the department is immeasurable”
“Defender” dramatically increases Windsor Marine Patrol’s effectiveness and interoperability with its cross border partners such as U.S. Customs & Border Patrol, U.S. Coast Guard and St Clair County Sheriff in neighboring Michigan. They will work commonly with Ontario Provincial Police and the Canadian Royal Mounted Police in cross border security, first response, search and rescue (SAR), dive missions and firefighting operations. The SAFE 29 Walk Around Cabin will serve the Town of Windsor Marine Patrol for decades to come and officially opens the door for Canadian first response units to have access to SAFE Boats International’s patrol and response vessels.
