Rep. Israel to Host Summit at USMMA to Discuss Solutions to Combat Homelessness Among Veterans

According to VA estimates, more than 60,000 veterans were homeless on a given night in 2012, representing roughly 13% of entire homeless population

On Friday, August 23, Congressman Steve Israel (D-Huntington) will host a summit at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy to discuss the issue of homelessness among veterans and solutions to combat it. In 2012, the Department of Veterans Affairs served more than 240,000 veterans who were homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Rep. Israel will moderate a panel discussion and welcome feedback from various stakeholders.
