A major global summit centred on the evolution of intelligent mobility will hold its inaugural event in Warwickshire, UK later this year.

Future Transit Systems 2014 will bring together leading transport academics, practitioners and technologists at MIRA Technology Park in Nuneaton to discuss the revolutionary developments in intelligent mobility – the exciting in-vehicle technology of the future.

The three-day summit will take in the automotive, rail and aerospace sector, and will focus on advances such as driverless vehicles and integrated transport.

The event, which will run from September 30 to October 2, is being supported by the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP), will be a hub for new thinking and technology within the transport strategy and infrastructure for future generations.

Companies from across the globe in automotive, digital and security, aerospace, academia, water, port, rail, transport, legislation, defence, funding and policy industries will have the opportunity to showcase their innovative capabilities using MIRA’s proving ground with live demonstrations.

There will also be sessions outlining leading trends, best practices and state-of-the-art equipment and technology solutions, providing an open workshop for companies to share world-leading intelligent mobility technology, data and expertise.

The summit, which will be attended by leading Government figures, will give global industry professionals the opportunity to network as well as the chance to see and assess a vast display of technology.

Jonathan Browning, chairman of Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership, said the summit will address the critical challenges and opportunities facing the intelligent mobility sector.

“This is a prestigious summit which will showcase cutting-edge technology in the intelligent mobility sector which is the future of the transport industry,” he said.

“One of the key economic drivers in Coventry and Warwickshire is the high number and quality of advanced manufacturing companies which are located here – many of whom are involved in transport – and it makes perfect sense to host the Future Transit Systems in the area.

“We are a world-leader in the advanced manufacturing and engineering sector and the work which is developing in future transit systems is truly ground-breaking.

“This event will attract policy makers and thought leaders from across the globe and the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership is delighted to play its part in making the most of these world-wide business opportunities to attract further inward investment to the area.”

The idea for the summit came from discussions among the CWLEP Board which has given its full backing to the event as well as securing support from the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, UK Trade and Investment, Technology Strategy Board, Department for Transport, Catapult Transport Systems and Communities and Local Government.
