The AdvanFort Company, a recognized global leader in maritime security solutions, has just signed on Axel Tuetken, the former country president in Tokyo for Maersk Line and Safmarine, as its business development director in Northern Europe, AdvanFort President William H. Watson said.

"Axel Tuetken is largely responsible for the recent optimization of profitability for the Japan branch of Maersk Line and Safmarine, generating more than 1 billion dollars in annual revenue while serving as Maersk"s country President and leading a team of 200 people," Captain Watson noted in a statement.

"His naming is yet another example of AdvanFort"s commitment to offering the best when it comes to maritime industry demands for quality management and state-of-the-art standards," the AdvanFort president added. "In the board room as well as on the high seas, where Maersk leads others happily follow, and we are very pleased to be able now to count on Axel as one of our own."

From Toyko, Tuetken supervised offices in Osaka, Kobe, Yokohama, and Nagoya, as well as a Shimizu joint venture, winning high praise for both increasing productivity and improving morale, while reaching out for the recruitment and development of a line management team that allowed for continuous improvement in a tough global economy.

From his initial position with Maersk as Sales Representative in Bremen and Lower Saxony, Tuetken rose through the ranks by garnering experience in Northern Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, before becoming its branch president in Japan.

"Like a conquering hero brimming with leadership, persuasion, and client relations skills honed around the globe and a reputation for building world-class high-performance teams, Axel"s return to the European market underscores AdvanFort's commitment not only to excellence, but also to leading the field in areas running from port and terminal security and counter-piracy to government relations," President Watson concluded.

Headquartered in Washington, D.C., AdvanFort provides state-of-the-art security services to some of the world"s largest shipping companies, with clients in more than 35 maritime flag states.
