At SMM 2014, taking place September 9-12, Japan Radio Company (JRC) and Alphatron Marine will announce some exciting new developments as a result of the recent collaboration. Previewing at SMM will be some of the world’s most technologically advanced marine electronics and total solution concepts available today.

Three state of the art bridge solutions, driven by the same concept and mindset of harmonizing control and advancing navigation technology, will be showcased.

The first is a unique, fully integrated one man bridge with a total of three 46-inch displays for use in coastal patrol vessels, offshore and workboats, combining radar, ECDIS, conning, alarm monitoring and DP data in an easy to use format and where all operating panels are “within reach”.

The second innovative and integrated bridge concept is a derivative of the one man bridge targeted at larger vessels. A total of five 46-inch displays with a center console allows for easy access to maneuvering controls and all other essential operating functions with the added ability to walk around.

The third is a tugboat variant, being the result of a design study together with some of the biggest tugboat operators in the world. This modular tugboat variant ensures all round visibility and ship control without compromise.

Bridge operations is a key area that we have observed over the last several years where we have seen an immediate application for our joint synergies. Both companies have constantly been pioneering new ways of working, gradually harmonizing control and advancing navigation technology. But this unique combination of expertise truly allows a one-stop-shop, flexible concept for navigation, communication, automation and complete ship’s bridges.

Further on show will be the Multi Function Display (MFD) as 19 and 26-inch standalone units. The MFD operating system can simply be used as a basic unit for radar, ECDIS or conning, but can also be used as an upgraded system, extended with the most demanding application. Without compromise on the level of quality that is expected from JRC, navigating systems have become more interactive and intuitive than ever before. With a few clicks, you can do things like route planning, acquiring targets, switching between the systems or show alarm information. The ultra fast, all-new hardware design, which has a perfected user interface with the specific purpose to create an experience, that lives up to the JRC standard of excellence. Needless to say, the MFD also functions as the backbone of the premium bridges.

Other products not to miss include the new VDR, Global Xpress unit, heading solutions including fiber optic and the new Alphaline MF range of instruments, which will provide a clear overview on the bridge and enable straightforward operation via touch. The MF line will come available in three variants with respect to screen size, with 5-inch, 6.5-inch and 8.4-inch, which will form the base of a full range of new navigation and communication products to be launched in the coming four years.
