United European Car Carriers (UECC) has taken delivery of the world’s first LNG-fueled pure car and truck carrier from Kawasaki Heavy Industries at the Nacks shipyard in China.

The vessel will be officially named Auto Eco when it reaches North Europe in November, and it is the first of two sister vessels to be delivered. The vessels are equipped with dual-fuel engines that can use either LNG or heavy fuel oil and marine gas oil.

The vessels will be put into service in Europe, where strict sulfur emission regulations have been introduced and will easily meet the regulation requirements.

At 181 meters (594 feet), with a 30 meter (98 foot) beam, Auto Eco is the biggest PCTC with 1A super Finnish/Swedish ice class. The vessel is able to complete a 14 day round voyage in the Baltic using solely LNG fuel.

Boasting a capacity of approximately 4,000 RT42 car units, including 6,000sqm of high and heavy cargo, Auto Eco has the capability to load cargo on 10 decks with a maximum cargo weight of 160mt.

UECC is equally owned by NYK and Wallenius Lines.
