T&T Marine Salvage Responds to Storm Damaged Northeast

T&T Marine Salvage, Inc. deployed over 20 people and 16 truckloads of marine salvage and response equipment from several of its stockpiles on the US East and Gulf Coast to aid in the recovery from Hurricane Sandy. The first T&T crews arrived in New York and New Jersey from T&T's Michigan Office on Wednesday October 31.
The storm left much of lower Manhattan without power and flooded basements and tunnels. The company worked for various entities such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), power company Consolidated Edison, and T&T's West Coast Partner FOSS Maritime providing pumping and power generation.
Twenty-five high-capacity, high-head pump systems were utilized in pumping out flooded office buildings, including 90' deep elevator shafts at the Verizon Building in Lower Manhattan. The portable pump systems, with capacities up to 2,000 gallons per minute, are extremely compact making them easy to install as well as easy to move between locations. The T&T crews and equipment received excellent reviews from FEMA for the work performed. The crews and pumps were also used to supply potable water throughout high-rise buildings.
Six industrial generators and 17,000 feet of power cord were deployed to provide power to responders. Capacities of the generators are 2,000 kilowatts (3), 1,500 kilowatt (2), and 1,000 kilowatts (1).
T&T Marine Salvage Vice-President, Kevin Teichman shared these words, "The business of marine salvage has taught us to respect the urgency of natural disasters and the power of nature. We are proud of our people who, through their commitment and dedication, were able to help those in need."
DeeAnn McMillen, Director Vessel Services, added "The deployment of equipment and personnel to this disaster by T&T Marine Salvage did not affect the standby Salvage and Marine Firefighting coverage provided by T&T Salvage, LLC., a designated provider of OPA 90 response."
