On the afternoon of November 22, Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group held the ship keel-laying ceremony at its Yangzhou Shipyard (Dayang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.) for DY4001 and DY4002, two first fabricated models of CROWN 63 (63,500DWT) Supramax bulk carriers. Mr. Li Wenlai, vice general manager of Dayang Shipbuilding, attended the ceremony while Mr. Florian Badel, as ship owner’s representative, lit the fire for the closing up of the vessels. As planned, these two ships will be delivered in Feb. 2012.

These first fabricated two CROWN63 bulk carriers have joined Bureau Veritas and the ship owner is Turner, who has ordered 16 CROWN 63 carriers from Dayang Shipbuilding till now, and the construction of subsequent vessels is going on smoothly at present. In addition, the newly built CROWN 63 after Apr. 2012 will adopt B-version design in which further optimization has been made, which arouses great expectation from the ship owners. As one of the important partners for Dayang Shipbuilding, Turner started its cooperation with Dayang Shipbuilding soon after Dayang’s foundation and has authorized the latter to build a series of bulk carriers like 53,100DWT and 58,000DWT to date.

Carrying Sinopaciifc’s own intellectual property, CROWN 63 is a brand-new Supramax bulk carrier developed based on the successful development of CROWN 58 (58,000DWT) by the group. It provides excellent comprehensive performance owing to the design innovation and optimization. Sinopacific’s design team has made every effort to reduce fuel consumption and improved structural design so as to achieve lighter weight. Meanwhile, environmental factors had been taken into consideration when figuring out the mechanical and electrical configuration.

While guaranteeing an operating speed that is equivalent to the CROWN 58, CROWN 63 could provide 9% more deadweight tonnage and 13% less fuel consumption. Its exhaust emissions have been greatly reduced, and it could provide ship owners with greater competitiveness in many areas. In view of the remarkable improvement in safety, environmental protection and operation efficiency, the technical solution provided by CROWN 63 serves as the best choice for the shipping world today.

Sinopacific indicates at the ceremony that as a technology driven group, the company is intensifying efforts to provide customers with best-in-class technical services and design products, and constantly seek an optimal balance point between technical solutions and construction cost in an attempt to deal with the toughest challenges in the international shipping community, which will definitely ensure the mutual-benefits cooperation between the ship owners and Sinopacific.
