Two Killed in Lifeboat Inspection Accident
Ensco has confirmed two oil rig workers were killed in an accident on board the Ensco 104 rig chartered to SapuraKencana off Malaysia, reports Upstream.
The accident happened during a routine inspection when the safety harness attached to a lifeboat broke. The men fell and suffered fatal head injuries.
“We are extremely saddened by the deaths of two crew members during the weekend aboard Ensco 104, a jackup drilling rig operating offshore Malaysia,” Ensco said in a statement.
“Our deepest condolences go out to their families who have been notified of the tragic incident, which occurred while they were conducting maintenance on a lifeboat. Authorities were notified and an investigation team is on board ENSCO 104 to determine the cause in an effort to prevent future incidents.”
The incident occurred around 11pm local time on Saturday.
