Coast Guard Proposes Vessel Documentation Renewal Fees

Published Mar 5, 2013 9:16 AM by The Maritime Executive

On Monday the Coast Guard issued a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) to amend its regulations to separately list an annual fee for renewals of endorsements upon the Certificate of Documentation.

The proposed rule would assess a fee of $26 for the annual renewal of endorsements on a vessel’s Certificate of Documentation. Currently there is no charge for the annual renewal. The Coast Guard says the proposed fee would help to cover administrative costs relating to the documentation service, generating an estimated $6.1 million annually.

The deadline for comments is May 3, 2013. Details of this proposal and comment submissions may be done on the Federal Register’s site. When submitting a comment is sure to include the docket number for this rule: USCG-2010-0990.

If you have questions on this proposed rule, call or email Mary Jager, CG-DCO-832, Coast Guard, telephone 202-372-1331, email [email protected]. If you have questions on viewing or submitting material to the docket, call Renee V. Wright, Program Manager, Docket Operations, telephone 202-366-9826.
