Visedo Marine Selected for Damen Eco-Liner
Electric Power Conversion/Visedo Marine have won the order for the propulsion drivetrain of the Damen Eco-Liner. Visedo Marine will deliver the Eco-Liner’s propulsion system consisting of 4 pcs Visedo PowerGEN 285kW LNG gensets and two pcs Visedo PowerPROP 500kW direct drive propulsion motors, hotel converters, bow thruster inverters and cargo pump inverters, as well as the SmoothTHRUST control algorithm to be embedded into the PMS system delivered by Werkina Werkendam.
Thanks to the heavy-duty design of Visedo's permanent-magnet motor, generators and inverters, the machine room layout for the vessel will be extremely simple, with the generator and propulsion inverters placed directly into the electrical machine rather than in traditional large converter panels.
Power distribution from generators to propulsion will be done using the Visedo PowerBUS DC-bus distribution solution that was recently tested and approved by Bureau Veritas. The PowerBUS DC-distribution panel ensures a fully redundant and selective solution where any fault or short circuit condition is handled without compromising the functionality of the remaining installation, allowing PS and SB systems to be constantly connected together.
By using the SmoothTHRUST algorithm for power generation and load sharing, full control of energy is achieved and all harmful effects to propulsion train and generator plant are avoided, resulting in a very stable generation and propulsion system that is immune to sudden loss of power.
The Eco-Liner is Damen’s new concept for an LNG-powered low-emission inland vessel that will reduce operational costs by at least 15%. It will be delivered during 2015.
Using permanent-magnet machines for generators and propulsion, the Visedo Marine drivetrain helps achieves this target due to its very high overall efficiency at a wide speed range.
High efficiency combined with robust design and very compact installation are the key factors that secured the order with Damen.
