Independence departs Bremerton on her final journey around South America to Brownsville (EMR)

Navy aircraft carrier, the USS Independence, is due to arrive on Thursday 1st June at the Port of Brownsville, Texas.

International Shipbreaking Ltd., part of the EMR Group, will be holding a special ceremony at Isla Blanca Park on the day of the arrival for veterans, school children and members of the local community to honor the vessel. US Congressman Filemon Vela and many other federal, state and local elected officials will be in attendance.

The 60,000-ton vessel, the last of the Forrestal-class of “supercarriers”, has travelled 16,000-miles from Bremerton, Washington to the world class recycling facility, and is the third of its kind to be processed there.

Chris Green, President of International Shipbreaking Limited and Vice President Bob Berry will be available for interview.

Thursday 1st June:

8:00am: Ceremony to take place at Isla Blanca Park: 33174 State Park Rd 100, South Padre Island, TX 78597

9:00am: USS Independence to be brought through the Brazos Santiago Pass
