Safebridge Welcomes Navy Officers for ECDIS Training

Safebridge, a renowned provider of innovative ECDIS training solutions, has recently hosted a training event for the officers of the German Navy.

The training which took place at the premises of Safebridge‘s training center in Hamburg for the duration of 10 days (September 6th-15th) covered 4 different ECDIS systems: Raytheon Anschütz Synapsis ECDIS, Transas Navi-Sailor 4000 ECDIS, Wärtsilä SAM Electronics ECDISPILOT, and Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine VisionMaster FT RADAR. The delegated trainees included 4 officers of the German Flotilla 2 fleet, where the mentioned ECDIS equipment is widely used. It is also worth mentioning that one of the participants was Ms. Jessica Graeper, in charge of the staff outfitting at the DEU Flotilla 2.

The significance of a concise and customized ECDIS training, performed by an external instructor was realized by the officials of the DEU Flotilla 2, once the customary methods (30-minute familiarization and trickle-down by senior officers) proved insufficient in reaching the necessary level of expertise, as well as ensuring the equal standard of knowledge among the crew.

With this in mind, the event adopted two different training approaches to match the distinct needs of the officers. In other words, a thorough training from scratch was provided for the participants with little or no previous knowledge of the systems, while the officers who have already been introduced to the specific equipment, have received a refresher training.

Although the focus of the event in question was to demonstrate the principles of Safebridge’s training to the officers of the German navy, it has been decidedly beneficial for both parties. To be more precise, their mutual expertise in navigation has resulted in a productive exchange of experience and ideas for a promising cooperation regarding the civil and military procedures.

Upon completion of the training, the participants expressed their gratitude to Safebridge and described     the event as highly informative. For the purposes of receiving a detailed feedback for this training, the officers and instructors were requested to complete a short survey. Consequently, it revealed that all trainees have been thoroughly satisfied with their instructor, the teaching methods, and the course presentation. What is more, when asked if the course met their expectations and provided all necessary knowledge regarding future responsibilities on board, the participants have been equally unanimous and gave the highest evaluation. On the whole, 6 out of 8 surveys displayed the highest rating with respect to the overall quality of the course.

Further to the notable success of this event, Safebridge is pleased to extend its warm invitation to the German Navy for a training in the nearest future, and believes that this would be the stepping stone for a mutually rewarding partnership.
