A Dynamic Positioning training facility run by real DPOs and not located in Houston, New Orleans, or Florida? Yes, it is finally happening.

DP Training Solutions LLC, a privately owned Dynamic Positioning training facility located in Great Neck, NY, opened its doors to its first students this week. The state-of-the-art facility is strategically located in the Northeast corridor, about 20-30 minutes from Manhattan and JFK and LaGuardia airports, and allows better access to four of the major US maritime academies (US Merchant Marine Academy (“USMMA”), SUNY Maritime College, Massachusetts Maritime Academy and Maine Maritime Academy).

Adding to their geographic advantage, the average cost of DP Training Solutions’ courses is roughly 15% less than their competition, with savings of up to $600 per course. Two local hotels, The Inn at Great Neck and The Andrew, are offering special discounted rates to students and, importantly, are located within walking distance of the facility.

Spearheaded by CAPT George Sandberg’s years of experience in simulation training and course development, DP Training Solutions will combine Kongsberg-manufactured equipment with Nautical Institute-certified DP Instructors to give students a realistic training experience and cutting-edge industry knowledge — maximizing their valuable off- time at a time when students are looking for any advantage in the offshore job market.

Keith Wagner, a 2009 USMMA graduate and the company’s CEO, has received overwhelming support from his industry peers and expects the courses to be something that students look forward to. “We are thrilled to bring DP training to the next generation of mariners. As the management team here knows from actual experience, proper training is essential to safety and advancement in this fast-growing technology. And as the drilling industry experiences its latest downturn, we are focused on providing our students with training that can give them a real advantage in finding and maintaining DP positions.”
