NAMEPA Welcomes New Board Member Christian Mollitor

Joe Hughes, Chairman of the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) announced, “NAMEPA welcomes our newest board member, Christian Mollitor, Vice President of the Liberian Registry (LISCR). Mr. Mollitor brings additional depth to the NAMEPA board with his experience in the global maritime industry.”

Mr. Mollitor’s experience in maritime and environmental regulatory compliance increases the breadth of NAMEPA’s board as the industry focuses on best practices. “As Vice President with LISCR, he works closely with mariners, shipowners and regulators to promote a sustainable marine industry.” Mr. Hughes remarked, “We are delighted to welcome Mr. Mollitor to Board membership, as NAMEPA moves forward with our commitment to stewardship and protection of our seas through corporate social responsibility.”

Christian Mollitor is Vice President of the Liberian Registry, the world’s largest white-listed ship registry renowned for excellence, efficiency, safety and innovative service; which includes nearly 4,200 vessels aggregating 150 million gross tons—representing 13 percent of the world’s ocean going fleet.

Before his appointment at the Liberian Registry, Mr. Mollitor practiced law in Alaska, and held maritime and environmental regulatory compliance roles at Royal Caribbean International and Holland America Line. During this time, he served as the NorthWest Cruiseship Association’s representative to Washington State’s ballast water policy work group and as co-director of the joint U.S. Coast Guard/Holland America Line cruise ship mass rescue operation exercise held in Ketchikan, Alaska.  As a lifelong environmentalist, he established three environmental programs at LISCR (eco-upgrade financing, Green Award initiative and eORB). 

Mr. Mollitor graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation. He also earned a Juris Doctor and Certificate of Specialization in Maritime Law from Tulane University Law School, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Western Washington University. He is a member of the Alaska, Virginia and U.S. Supreme Court Bars and the Maritime Law Association of the United States.
