Maritime Global Technologies Innovation Center to Host ?Reverse Pitch?

The Maritime Global Technologies Innovation Center (MGTIC) will be hosting a “Reverse Pitch” at the College on Thursday, March 15th from 10:30-1:30 announced Dr. Christopher Clott, ABS Chair of Marine Transportation and Logistics at SUNY Maritime College and Co-Founder of the MGTIC. The format will be representatives from the Maritime, Port, Logistics, and land-based industries will present challenges to those with the talent, desire and passion to dream and conceive possible solutions (innovators). This type of presentation helps expose real needs, inefficiencies and pain points ripe for an innovation, creativity, and solution. Also in the room will be investors looking for incubator companies.

Innovators interested in presenting solutions from issues discussed at the Reverse Pitch will be provided with more in-depth briefings and mentoring after the conference. They will be invited to pitch developed ideas at a follow-up session to investors at a venue in midtown Manhattan on June 21st. This is also a unique opportunity for entrepreneurs; large, small and mid-sized firms; venture capital and private equity firms; and the academic community to better access and connect industry needs with startup solution providers.

Co-founded with Dr. Richard Burke, ABS Professor of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, the MGTIC is a collaborative incubator fostering technology developments in the maritime space through entrepreneurial innovations bringing together maritime, technology and financial interests to accelerate tools for commercial growth. A year ago, SUNY Maritime College hosted a “Hackathon” which not only exposed the weaknesses in corporate digital infrastructure, but also highlighted the need for a Center which aligns industry with innovators and funding groups to solve problems. The MGTIC was launched in November to meet this need.

The NYC metropolitan area offers access to an unparalleled volume of shipping companies, port and terminal facilities, and innovators, as well as an abundance of private equity and financial institutions” stated MGTIC Co-Founder Richard Burke. “Our Reverse Pitch will give this community an opportunity to interact and pursue solutions to industry’s most challenging problems.”

In addition to the Reverse Pitch on March 15th, and the tech developer’s feedback session on June 21st, a third event is planned for October 18th in Stamford, CT immediately following the SHIPPINGInsight Fleet Optimization and Innovation Conference for resultant product demonstrations.
