The Marcura Group, a Dubai-based group of companies focused on providing innovative business solutions to the maritime industry, today announced the appointment of Taher Afridi as Senior Information Security Officer and Leanne Maw as Legal Counsel, who will both serve in the Group’s Legal & Compliance Department.

“These appointments are in line with Marcura’s objective of further increasing its investment in Compliance, and in the process likewise further enhancing the compliance profile of the Group’s maritime customer base, which is now in excess of 300 global companies operating round-the-clock all over the world,” says Felix J. Antero, General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer of the Group.

“Both Taher and Leanne have impressive educational and professional credentials which the Group can leverage for the benefit of our customers and other stakeholders.”

Taher brings over 12 years of experience in information technology (IT), many of which were heavily focused on managing information and cybersecurity, and providing guidance and consultancy on military-grade information security infrastructures and requirements. His experience spans several highly regulated industries, including the Defense, Government, Education and Military Aviation industries.

Taher has managed multiple projects that include setting up network and security operations centers (NOC/SOC), information security management systems (ISMS), managed security services (MSS) and multi-tenancy environments. In his last role as Network & Security Operations Manager, Taher led the Network & Security Teams at AMMROC (a Mubadala Military subsidiary) and oversaw all projects and operations pertaining to IT networking, communications and information security. He holds a Masters in Computer Engineering, and professional designations such as PMP, CISSP, and ISO27001 & ISO20000 Lead Auditor, in addition to other technical certifications (e.g., CCVP, CCNP, CCNA).

Leanne Maw qualified as a Solicitor of England and Wales in 2009 and has worked in private practice gaining experience within commercial, corporate and private client departments since her training contract in 2007. She is a diploma-holder and member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), which enabled her to provide specialist advice with respect to trusts both in the UK and the UAE. In 2015, she moved to an in-house role for a large manufacturing and distribution company where she dealt with numerous legal matters for the company and its international subsidiaries. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of Leicester and completed her Legal Practice Course at Nottingham Law School.

“Taher and Leanne will be working closely with all the Group’s business units and departments to oversee, manage and enhance the information security and compliance posture of the entire Marcura organization, especially in view of our commitment to continuously raise the standards of our service offerings in collaboration with our customers,” Felix added.
