Upward Tendency for PALFINGER MARINE in the US Market: Two PALFINGER MARINE Cranes Sold to Kirby Corporation
With the support of Donovan Marine, PALFINGER MARINE crane dealer for the Gulf of Mexico, two PALFINGER PK 11001 MC foldable knuckle cranes were delivered to Signal International in Orange, Texas to be installed on two newly constructed 126ft ATB tugs for Kirby Ocean Transport Company. The cranes will be used for launching a small work skiff into the water and general maintenance as well as store stores handling. The tugs are designed to couple with coal barges for transporting coal from Louisiana to a power station in Florida. The benefit of the Articulated Tug/Barge (ATB) is that instead of having 1 cargo ship which has a big engine and a big cargo hold, the main propulsion part (tug) can be locked together with many cargo holds (barges) which allows for better utilization of the expensive propulsion unit (tug). Otherwise the whole ship waits for the cargo to be off/on- loaded.
