The Landing School Appoints New Faculty Member to their Marine Systems and Composites Programs

The Landing School, a post-secondary institution focused on educating tomorrow's marine industry professionals, is pleased to announce they have hired Natasha DeLuca as a Lab Technician in the Marine Systems and Composite Boat Building programs. DeLuca is poised to graduate in June from The Landing School with an Associate's of Applied Science in Marine Industry Technology. She will be the eighth student from The Landing School who has returned as an instructor.

DeLuca hails from Washington State and is a US Army veteran. She also attended Columbia Basin College and Methodist University before choosing to come to The Landing School. Her desire to live and work on the water drove her to focus on Composite Boat Building and Yacht Design in order to achieve her associate degree.

"With her impressive performance here at the school, Natasha brings a tremendous breadth of capability to this position," stated Bob DeColfmacker, President of The Landing School. "As a soon-to-be graduate, Natasha has a very keen understanding of the student's perspective of these programs. Her enthusiasm and fresh perspective will help form how we continue to improve our educational experience."

While in the Composite Boat Building program she studied structural mechanics, production methods and witnessed how the choice of materials interfaces with the design and production of a boat. She also studied the design and systems elements that are key in the boat building process. These educational skills led to her participation in building a composite dinghy and carbon fiber kayaks. In Yacht Design, DeLuca learned about the technical design process for both power- and sailboats. Manual drafting skills gave way to two- and three-dimensional CAD-based modeling and culminated in a final project, a boat of her own design.
